It is the Facebook generation and more and more children are sitting at home using the internet and not getting out and moving around. While there is more information and communication than ever before and this is great we must remember to keep our kids active and healthy. New studies have been conducted by the British Chiropractic Association have now found that 65 percent of people from the age of 16-34 now suffer from back and neck pain. This pain is attributed to sitting for long periods of time according to the study.

I have noticed this trend in my own practice. It is becoming more of a chronic problem in the cities of Wilkes-Barre and Kingston where I see most of my patients. So what is the solution. There are several steps that can be taken after all it is all about quality of life, we all want a pain free productive life. Enroll your children in activities that they love Like Boy Scouts, Swimming, Lacrosse or other great sports and activities. Make sure they get there and participate if they love the activity they will put down the tablet for a while and may even learn some great life skills in the process.
Next find a chiropractor who understands children and their health problems. Just like dentistry chiropractic is not just for when we are having problems but regular checkups can catch problems before they become painful and permanent. “A recent case study describes the role of chiropractic and conservative treatments in managing a vascular disorder called Paget-Schroetter Syndrome.” according to Chironexus. There are several case studies reviewed in this article but it is not a surprises to me to find this out. I have spent over a decade treating patients in my Kingston Wilkes Barre practice and I know the power of chiropractic. The chiropractic adjustment doesn’t just treat the muscles and joints but has a direct effect on the central nervous system and an effect on the the circulatory system. As a matter of fact the entire profession of Osteopathy was founded on the effect’s of joint manipulation on the circulatory system and the roots of chiropractic are based on the effect of the adjustment on the central nervous system so these are not new concepts.

In this report the Cox Flexion Distraction or flexion-distraction technique was used. I have personally used this technique for over 10 years in my Kingston office. I find it to be a very effective treatment for many low back pain conditions and according to the story “Cox Flexion Distraction is a low-velocity spinal adjustment procedure that is applied using a specialized table or instrument, in addition to manual contact. Trained chiropractors use flexion distraction to decrease pressure between spinal discs, increase disc height, improve range of motion, and more. Approximately 60% of chiropractors in the United States use Cox Flexion Distraction therapy in their practice.” I have not just used it on regular patients but on patients involved in MVA’s (car accidents) and even patients involved in air craft accidents.

The question is dose regular alcohol consumption increase your risk of low back pain. It has been shown in earlier research that smoking may increase your risk of low back pain and musculoskeletal conditions but are they also affected by alcohol? University of Sydney researcher have tried to answer this question.
