In runners knee pain is one of the most common conditions I have run across after over ten years of treating patients. Repetitive injuries are common in all sports and foot and knee injuries are the most common found in runners. Chironexus has written a great article on the bio-mechanical injuries experienced by marathon runners and how chiropractic can help. I have been treating the serious athlete and the weekend warrior for over a decade in the Wilkes Barre Kingston area and many of the points mentioned in this article can be applied to a lesser degree to many of these patients. According to the article “Knee pain can be the result of a wide variety of underlying causes. One such cause of knee pain that is often overlooked as even a possibility is entrapment of the saphenous nerve. ”

Sleeping on the wrong mattress can cause or worsen lower back pain. Lack of support from a mattress reinforces poor sleeping posture, strains muscles and does not help keep the spine in alignment, all of which contribute to low back pain. Sleep comfort is also sacrificed if a mattress does not match one’s individual preferences. A mattress that provides both comfort and back support helps reduce low back pain, allowing the structures in the spine to really rest and rejuvenate during the night. Newest studies illustrate that at least one in four women are trying to cope with arthritis, gout or chronic headaches. If you’re one of these people, a daily bowl of cherries may soothe your pains, without the stomach upset many times caused by today’s painkillers, say scientists at East Lansing ’s Michigan State University . Their studies reveals that anthocyanins, the compounds that give cherries their incredible red color, are anti-inflammatories ten times better than ibuprofen and aspirin. “Anthocyanins help shut down the powerful enzymes that begin tissue inflammation, so they can prevent, as well as treat, many different kinds of pain,” explains Muraleedharan Nair, Ph.D., professor of food science at Michigan State University . Sugestions: Indulge In 20 cherries (fresh, frozen or dried) daily, then continue until your pain goes away.
