What Is a Health Coach?
A health coach takes on numerous diverse roles. They make sure that the clientele they deal with obtain total wellness and health. Aside from this, they also strive to help their clients feel good about themselves. Health coach jobs are not that effortless. It is not simply about keeping the customers in good shape and toned up. There is more to health coaching than this.
Here are the standard roles of a health coach:
- Construct a health and wellness program that will be suitable to the body requirements of the customer. You can’t merely use one specific health program to all your clients. Diverse people have diverse requirements in terms of health and wellness. The health coach have to first make a professional evaluation of the needs of the clients prior to deciding on the proper program for them.
- Encourage the customer to involve in physical routines. Exercising is not that motivating at all. Many people find it difficult to engage in exercising even in as short as half an hour. This is also the reason why many people workout only for a brief period of time and ultimately stops. They merely come to the point when they are not motivated to exercise anymore. It pays off to have someone to guide you and push you to do physical workout. Also, the health coach will be the one to choose the suitable exercise for the client.
- Make sure that the client will get essential nutrition. Diet performs a significant aspect in health and wellness. Wrong diet can lead to a lot of different illnesses. It can also be an element that affects people’s emotions. Eating right puts people at the right track in terms of health and wellness.
- Provide advice to clients. Changing lifestyle – from being unhealthy to a healthy one – may give rise to many different emotional, psychological, and physical concerns. These concerns should be addressed appropriately to assure that the client will get the help he needs throughout the lifestyle transformation that he is going through.
The health coach serves as the doctor, psychologist, physical trainer, and nutritionist of the clientele. Health coach certification is provided to people who are prepared and qualified to take on these roles. The job of a health coach may be a bit challenging with the all these demands but it undoubtedly is a very gratifying one. Knowing that you are able to assist several people in their wish to get healthy and well is a massive success already.

From Wikipedia:
“The roots of health coaching began with psychologists treating persons addicted to alcohol. In the early 1990s, The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholismconducted a study that compared several methods of treatment for alcohol addiction. They included: cognitive behavioral therapy, a twelve-step program approach similar toAlcoholics Anonymous, and motivational interviewing.”
“Health coaching, by contrast, guides patients to talk about what is most troubling to them about their conditions, what they most want to change, what support they have to foster change, and what obstacles or difficulties must be removed or minimized to advance healthy behaviors. It is not the main role of the health coach to teach, advise or counsel the patient. Health coaching focuses on the special issues and concerns unique to the individual patient that fit into the context of the patient’s life.”

I find this concept intriguing but would advise anyone to check the credentials of anyone offering this service and make sure they are qualified to give the advice they are giving. It is my experience that knowledge is power but just because you know what to do doesn’t mean you are going to do it. So like a personal trainer or birth dula this is a great Idea for those who need some one on one to stay on track.
